Our Beliefs
The beliefs of Adrian Baptist Church are unchanging and founded upon the Word of God.  It is not our place to change the teachings of the Bible.  It is our place to allow the teachings of the Bible to change us.

1.  The Holy Scriptures -  We believe that the Holy Scriptures, the sixty-six books from Genesis through Revelation, are the verbal, and absolute inspired Word of God found in the 1611 King James Version of the Bible.  They were written by holy men of God who were controlled by the Holy Spirit as to the very words used, therefore, totally without error.  The Bible is the only complete, supreme revelation and the foundation for all that we believe and therefore must be obeyed.

2.  The Only True God - We believe in one Triune God eternally existing in three persons:  the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.  Each being identical in essence and nature, equal to each other, yet executing distinct and harmonious duties and having the same divine attributes.

a.)  Person of Work of Christ - We believe in the Deity and the virgin birth of our Lord Jesus Christ;  that He is the eternal and only begotten Son of God;  that He was conceived of the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary not having a human father; that He was sinless in His life, and is true God and true man;  that He made atonement for the sins of the world by the shedding of His blood, and His death on the cross, was buried, and rose again the third day for our justification, according to the Scriptures.  He is the Savior of those who believe in Him.  We believe in His bodily resurrection, His ascension into heaven and His Life there as High Priest and Advocate, that He is the only Mediator between God and man.  We believe in a pre-tribulation rapture of the saints to heaven.  Following the tribulation period Christ will return to set up His millennial kingdom.

b.)  The Holy Spirit - We believe that the Holy Spirit is co-eternal and co-existent with God the Father and God the Son.  He is the Inspirer of Scripture and that He came to convict the world of sin, of righteousness and of judgement; and to regenerate, sanctify, comfort, teach, indwell, seal, guide and empower those who believe in Jesus Christ.  He is a person, not an impersonal influence or force.  We believe the Holy Spirit indwells every true Christian, who, in turn, is commanded to be filled with and controlled by the Spirit. We believe that the answer to daily victory in Christian living, and power for soul winning is found in the fullness of the Holy Spirit.  We believe that all worship, witness, evangelism and mission should be conducted in the power of the Holy Spirit.

3.  The Personality of Satan - We believe that Satan is a person, the author of sin and the cause of the fall of man; that he is the open and declared enemy of God and man;  that his powers are supernaturally great,  but strictly limited by the permissive will of God, and that he shall be eternally punished in the lake of fire.

4.  State of Man - We believe that man was created in the image of God, and originally without sin.  Through disobedience, he sinned and thereby incurred not only physical death but also spiritual death which is separation from God.  All human beings are born with a sinful nature and therefore being totally depraved, are under just condemnation to eternal ruin without defense or excuse, utterly unable to remedy his lost condition.

5.  Salvation of Man -  We believe that salvation is the gift of God brought to man by grace, repentance, and personal faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, whose precious blood was shed on Calvary for the forgiveness of our sins.  It is possible to know how to be saved and have eternal life.  There is salvation in none other than Christ, and the personal acceptance and belief in Him is absolutely essential.  To be saved, a sinner must be born again, the new birth is a new creation in Christ Jesus, and it is instantaneous, not a process, but is evidenced by visible fruits of the Holy Spirit.  We believe that all sins, except blasphemy of the Holy Spirit, are forgivable, if one does not accept Jesus Christ as their personal saviour, they are condemned.

6.  Eternal Security and Salvation Assurance - We believe that once a person has accepted Jesus Christ as their personal savior,  they are eternally kept by God's power and are secure in Christ forever and cannot lose one's salvation.  However, we believe God's Word clearly forbids the use of Christian Liberty as an occasion to the flesh.

7.  Individual Free Will of Man - We believe that every individual, whether a born again believer or an unbeliever, has the liberty and responsibility to choose what his conscience or soul dictates is right in the religious realm with temporal and eternal consequences.

8.  Justification - We believe that justification is the judicial act of God whereby He declares the believer righteous upon the basis of the imputed righteousness of Christ.  We believe that it is bestowed upon the believer by faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and His redeeming blood that was shed for sin.  Justification is not of works.

9.  The Blood of Christ - We believe in the blood of Christ that was shed at the cross of Calvary that cleanses us from sin, and that it is that blood that was placed on the mercy seat in the Holy of Holies in Heaven.  Without his blood there is no remission of sin.

10.  Creation - We reject the theory of evolution or any other theory that detracts from or supplements the fact of creation.  We believe that God created the universe including all spirit beings, man and lower forms of life and that the early chapters of Genesis are a literal and accurate history.

11.  Separation - We believe that separation is a doctrine as well as a practice that runs through the entire Word of God, the three area of greatest importance being:

a.)  Separation of Church and State -  We believe that God established both church and civil government.  He gave each its own distinct and separate purposed and sphere or operation. Being separate, neither should seek control the other.  However, as God-ordained, the government must never seek to remove godly influences as its foundation of operation.  As citizens of this God-ordained government we must "render unto Caesar the things which are Caesar's"

b.)  Personal Separation - We believe in the separation of the believer from the world and sin in order serve God.  All saved people should live in such a manner as not to bring reproach upon their Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  Personal separation involves a separation from acts of sin, heretics, false teachers and to keep ourselves unspotted from the world's philosophy, thinking and outlook on life.

c.)  Ecclesiastical Separation - We believe in the religious separation involving the separation of the church from apostasy.  While recognizing the unity of all believers, it is also evident that unbelief and error in many churches has developed to the extent where apostasy exists.  As a local church, we are not to mutually cooperate with, but separate from doctrines, and principles of scripture.  Apostates are to be reproved, rebuked and rejected.  We believe we ought to separate from those who are content to walk with or tolerate religious error.  This church is not Pentecostal or charismatic.  The teachings and practices of these groups are not allowed within the fellowship of this church, lest divisions occur and harmony of this assembly be weakened.

12.  The Church - We believe that the church (local assembly) is a body of believers who are baptized by immersion, joined by membership, and are equal in rank and privileges.  The church is to glorify God through the assembling of corporate worship, fellowship, service and the evangelization of the lost throughout the world.
The church was given two ordinances to fulfill, baptism by immersion for believers only.  We reject the teaching of infant baptism.  The Lord Supper is the second ordnance and this consist of unleavened bread which represents the Lord's body and grape juice that represents the blood of Christ.
